Storage insurance is an important aspect of renting a storage unit.
Renting a storage unit is very similar to renting an apartment. The building owner insures their asset (building), but insuring the contents of the apartment is the responsibility of the tenant. Storage facilities, like Sentinel, are in charge of keeping the building and the unit secure, but are not responsible for what’s inside the unit. Storage renters are strongly encouraged to have content insurance.
“But what can happen?“. Terrible events like the Fort McMurray fire and Calgary floods are an examples of what can happen.
One advantage of being in business for over 40 years is Sentinel has excellent relationships with our insurers. Many years ago, our insurance experts worked with us to create a Customer Insurance Program, at a low monthly cost.
Sentinel requires all customers to carry content insurance. We offer the first four weeks for free, so you can try ours out. After that, we will automatically add insurance to your 4-week cycle of rent. If you want to use your own insurance, simply bring us proof of insurance and we will remove our plan from your account. Check your home insurance policy closely as sometimes contents are not insured when they are not in the home.
