THE BEST WAY TO UNPACK THE KITCHEN

The kitchen is the heart of many homes, and most people want their kitchen organized ‘just right’. There is no right or wrong way to organize a kitchen, but most people have preferences as to how theirs is organized. Here are some tips on getting your kitchen unpacked.

1. Don’t rush

The kitchen probably shouldn’t be the first room to be unpacked in your new home. Take your time and try to envision where you would want to reach when you need any given item. Avoid throwing your things into your drawers and cupboards just to get rid of the boxes cluttering the eating area. You will regret it as it is much harder to go back and pull everything out to reorganize than it is to do it right the first time.

2. Channel your old kitchen

Was everything in the perfect place in your old kitchen? If so, try to mimic that! For example, if you kept the plates in the cabinet to the left of the oven, do that same thing. Your behavioural patterns will thank you!

3. Be strategic

Place the things you use the most in the most convenient areas. Plates, cups, utensils, and go-to dry foods should be in the easiest to reach, central locations in your kitchen. The waffle iron and cake pop maker can go in the bottom cupboard on the far end.

4. Purchase organizers

A little goes a long way with kitchen organizers! Any department store or kitchen specialty store should have utensil organizers, spice organizers and pop-up shelves to maximize the use of the space under the sink!

5. Think safety

If you have kids or pets in your home, be aware of what they can reach. There are many things in kitchens which could be dangerous to them, so keep these things out of reach and/or locked up.

We hope these tips make your kitchen one of the most enjoyable rooms in your house! Happy unpacking!
