Sentinel Storage proudly supports Team Rubicon's grey shirts in their critical mission
When Toronto's Drew Robertson made the decision to retire from his successful finance career, he felt a strong urge to give back to the community. Drew had always placed service as a top priority, leading him to enlist in the Canadian Armed Forces during his younger years. Now in retirement, he longed for an environment that resembled his military days in the 1990s.
However, he was uncertain about how to find such an environment until he came across an article in a national newspaper highlighting Team Rubicon's work in assisting communities during times of crisis. Drew immediately recognized that Team Rubicon, an organization deploying former military personnel for disaster relief, provided exactly what he was searching for.
"The transition from the military was an immensely challenging experience," shared Drew. "It became a personal mission that I had to overcome."
Despite retiring from active service nearly 30 years ago, Drew still faced the difficulties of transitioning into civilian life. "Even after completing my civilian career, I still missed the military," he explained. "When I read that newspaper article, it struck a chord with me. I realized it was a mission I wanted to undertake."
Team Rubicon's commitment to assisting former military personnel in their transition to civilian life or their return to service perfectly aligned with their central mission. Their remarkable efforts in rebuilding communities affected by disasters, coupled with their dedication to supporting individuals like Drew, inspired Sentinel Storage to enthusiastically partner with them and contribute to their noble work.
Currently, Team Rubicon can be observed providing assistance to communities recovering from the devastating wildfires that have ravaged parts of Canada.
Since joining Team Rubicon just over a year ago, Drew's work has taken him across Canada. He has been involved in clean water projects on Aboriginal land in the Near North, participated in wildfire clean-up efforts in British Columbia, provided aid in the Maritimes after hurricanes, and assisted small towns in Ontario following a tornado.
Drew describes the experience of working hands-on in disaster-stricken areas as incredibly fulfilling. "Team Rubicon gives me the opportunity to serve once again," he expressed. "Not only that, but it amplifies my ability to serve in ways I couldn't achieve alone. We all derive immense job satisfaction from working face to face, aiding someone on their worst day. It's one thing to observe a flood from above; it's an entirely different experience to stand beside a homeowner, helping them rebuild their life."
In addition to the personal fulfillment it provides, participating in a Team Rubicon mission allows for connections with like-minded individuals who share the same values as former military personnel. "Being part of a Team Rubicon mission feels like a homecoming week," remarked Drew. "It's gratifying to engage with people who share the experience of service. We all have a common purpose."
Drew emphasizes that the success of Team Rubicon's work relies on the generosity of Canadians and Canadian companies like Sentinel Storage. "One of the most challenging situations for us is being on the sidelines during an operation," he acknowledged. "However, we don't always have the financial means. The ability to expand our reach stems from the financial and in-kind contributions we receive from companies like Sentinel Storage."
Drew, we deeply appreciate your service, and we extend our heartfelt gratitude to Team Rubicon for their unwavering dedication to helping communities recover from crises.
