Stop by any location during office business hours and our on-site managers will happily walk you through the process. When you call us, you’ll be connected to a storage advisor who will pair you with the right storage solution for your needs and budget. You can also use our online reservation system: simply decide which unit size you want, select your location to see their availability, and place your unit reservation. 6 Does Sentinel Storage require security deposits? Are they refundable?

For regular indoor storage units, no security deposits are required. However, a small security deposit is taken for winter car storage, mailbox rentals and business centre offices. For auto storage and the business centre, the deposit is returned upon vacating if there is no damage. A mailbox deposit is returned when the keys are returned.

7 How do I pay for my unit?

We like to keep this as simple as possible. You pre-pay each 4-week cycle, and this can be done in person during office hours or you can pay online by logging into your account on our website. We accept credit cards, debit cards, cash, and cheque.

If you currently rent with Sentinel Storage and wish to pay your bill online, you will need to create an online account to do so. Online accounts can pay by credit card and debit card (limited). For detailed instructions, please refer to How to Pay My Bill.

8 Can I pay for a partial month’s rent or do you just charge a flat fee?

Our rentals have a 4-week term minimum. After this minimum is met… If you need a storage unit for a few days into the next rental period, Sentinel is one of the few companies that allows you to pay a weekly rate. This weekly rate is on a pro-rated basis and is allowed within each first week of your term. Here’s how it works: You move in on July 14th and need your unit until August 20th. You would pay for four weeks (from July 14th to August 11th), plus the remaining nine days at a pro-rated amount! This way you only pay for what you actually need.

9 Will my items be safe?

Yes! Whether it’s household self storage, commercial storage or auto storage, security is the number priority at every Sentinel Storage location. Our storage facilities across Canada feature:

  • on-site management (Alberta, Manitoba, Ontario)
  • concrete and steel construction
  • individual door alarms
  • electronic security
  • controlled access systems
  • good lighting
  • security cameras and more
10 Do I need content insurance or does my home insurance protect my belongings in storage?

You need specific content insurance. Home or business insurance will typically not cover items stored away from your insured premises for a length of time. Sentinel offers affordable content insurance that will protect your possessions and provide liability coverage as well. Your first four weeks of insurance are free through Sentinel – after that you will need to either sign up for our content insurance, or provide proof of your own.

11 Does Sentinel Storage offer any guarantees or warranties?

Our guarantee of great service is backed by our track record of over 40 years of satisfied customers. In addition, security and solid construction ensure risk is kept to a minimum. Similar to other property rentals, you are responsible for purchasing content insurance.

12 How will I get all of my items to my storage unit?

All Sentinel Storage locations offer a courtesy moving truck for our customers to move in! Our 14-foot cube trucks are available to transport your items to our storage facilities during the move in process. Reservations are first come, first serve – so book yours today! We don’t charge a rental fee. We only require tenants to replace any gas used in the truck.

We do have a few prerequisites that our insurance company requires:

  • Be a Sentinel customer
  • Be at least 25 years old
  • Have an active credit card. A $500 pre-authorized hold is put on the card the day of the rental. (This damage deposit will be returned with the safe return of the vehicle. Please note that you would be responsible for the first $500 in damages.)
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and current auto insurance
  • Pick up the moving truck during office hours

If you need supplies to get organized prior to your move, we have locks and packing supplies for sale at all of our locations including boxes, bubble wrap, tape, and more!

13 What if I need to get into my unit at odd hours?

Sentinel Storage has two locations that offer 24 hour access: Fort McMurray, AB and Bedford, NS. All other locations have access hours from 6AM-11PM, 365 days a year, so you can drop off or pick up your belongings when it’s convenient for you.

14 How much notice do I have to give when I need to vacate my rental unit?

Many storage companies require 30 days notice and will charge you for a full month if you miss this deadline. At Sentinel, we understand that you don’t always know when you’ll need to pack up and move on, so just let us know 14 days ahead of when you take the last of your items out of your storage unit and we’ll cancel your Storage Agreement. Easy as that.

15 What is your refund policy?

Sentinel Storage does not offer refunds. If you will be moving out in the middle of your 4-week cycle, let us know in advance before you pay so that you only pay for what you need that cycle!
